Historic New York City Post Office at 34 Street

A Quick Glimpse at NYC's Famous Old Post Office

The James A. Farley Post Office Building is more than 100 years old.  It was built in 1912 and opened in 1914.  The current size actually came about when they doubled its size in 1934.    It was after the expansion it became known as the James A. Farley Post Office due to his efforts.  The post office stretches to take over the entire block.  It is opens early and closes late.  The its operation timings can be found online.

When it is the last day to pay our Federal taxes, usually this is the post office shown in the media due to its long hours and capacity to take a large amount of mail. It was known before for being open 24 hours.  It was only after 2009, it began closing at the end of the day.

If you live in New York City, its better to pay your taxes ahead of time, so you don't have to stand in line here in April. Sometimes we have cold weather during April and its no fun to be outside in the cold waiting to post mark your mail on time.  The picture above was taken during the end of March. So beware.
